Teeth Whitening
Make Others Notice Your Smile with Gentle Teeth Whitening
One of the first things people notice about you is your smile. Giving your teeth a wow factor by changing them to a brighter hue is an easy treatment that gets results quickly. Teeth whitening removes stains and discolouration from teeth. It improves their colour through a bleaching process to make them look whiter.
At City Quay Dental Clinic & Implant Centre, we use a bespoke teeth whitening system designed to reduce sensitivity and provide a fast and convenient whiter smile. Both chairside whitening and at-home whitening kits are available to give you a brilliant smile.
Discolouration Happens for Many Reasons
- Surface stains from highly-pigmented food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, and blackcurrant
- Habits, such as smoking
- The presence of calculus or tartar
- Staining below the tooth surface is caused by certain antibiotics or tiny cracks in the teeth, which take up stains
Why Whiten Your Teeth Professionally?
- A greater perception from others that you are more sociable, friendly, or intelligent
- Increased confidence in your appearance
- Brighter teeth are associated with youth, making you appear younger
- Results happen over a short period of time
- Professional whitening gel concentrations are more potent than over-the-counter options
- Your whitening trays are made just for you
- Dentists can provide realistic treatment expectations and help you safely achieve a whiter smile, whether in-house or using at-home whitening kits
What is In-House Teeth Whitening?
In-house teeth whitening has been specially developed to service the increasing demand from patients for a highly effective chair-side whitening treatment.
The whitening gel we use is a unique low-viscosity formula designed to act quickly, giving the maximum result over an hour-and-a-half treatment process. The in-office whitening uses advanced blue LED light-accelerated whitening, which can make your teeth up to eight shades whiter in a single visit.
To ensure the longevity of results, every in-house whitening treatment includes a whitening kit with four whitening gel treatments, ensuring that you achieve a white smile that lasts.
Take Home Kits
The take-home kits involve an examination by one of our dentists first to establish if there are any risks in providing teeth whitening. The patient does the procedure at home but under the supervision of a dentist. We take great care to provide patients with appropriate treatments and help them achieve smiles they want to show off.
Your home whitening kit includes custom-made bleaching/whitening trays and whitening gel. One of our acclaimed dentists will provide specific instructions on how often you need to use the trays, how much whitening gel you need, and how long you must keep the trays inserted each day.

A Word of Caution with OTC Whitening Kits
We do not recommend over-the-counter (OTC) kits sold in the UK as they usually contain only a small concentration of hydrogen peroxide (the whitening product). The legal limit in the UK is 0.1% of hydrogen peroxide, and effective bleaching products need about 3.6%.
Also, some of these kits contain mild acids, and others are abrasive. This can cause ulcers and damage the gums and the enamel if not used properly.
We use a 10% carbamide peroxide balanced solution in practice. The system has been designed to reduce sensitivity and reduce the effect of dehydration that generally occurs with teeth whitening.
